Here's a quick interview with Narendra Rocherolle, one of the individuals behind 30Boxes.
Who is your average user?
We were targeting several demos (college age, families, and small
businesses) with the hope of attracting people that have not used any
digital form of scheduling or those who were frustrated with existing
solutions.
What value are you providing them?
1) The simplicity alleviates any stress that comes with a cumbersome
application (e.g. MS Outlook).
2) Your data is also available for other applications (via RSS, ical) and
our sharing mechanism (based on tags) makes it very easy to segregate
portions of your calendar and share only those sections with certain people.
3) As you build a small trusted social network of friends or family you
benefit from collective wisdom: for example, you become aware of other
people's birthdays or special events. This type of passive communication
also creates efficiency in scheduling.
4) Because 30B allows aggregation of people's "web stuff" it serves as an
efficient people reader, allowing the presentation of other social media
like photos, blogs, myspace, etc. to be conveniently integrated within a
calendar interface
How do you generate revenue?
we will be offering tiered premium services as well as location based
contextual advertising
Also, I found this nugget on Scott McMullan's weblog:
Sharing Calendars. The never-ending quest for a calendar solution for our family has a temporary home at 30boxes.com. Our main goal is to coordinate my events, as tracked in Upcoming.org, with our family events, as kept by Rebecca on her personal calendar. She's agreed to use 30boxes because the interface is really intuitive and joyful. I like it because it sucks events directly from my Upcoming page. Our two calendars merged using their nifty overlay feature and the deal is sealed. (At least until I can eval Google's calendar.)
I guess EventSniper isn't the only one enabling personal event aggregation.
