Business social networking leader LinkedIn seems to have a bug that can mean problems for some of its members. Scott Allen of LinkedIntelligence reports that he received a response to a message he never sent on LinkedIn.
The message asked if he knew the sender and wanted to know why he had requested to be added as a friend. The odd thing is that Scott never sent a friend request to this person and had proof of it by checking through his sent message list. The other person had received the friend request though, it was right there in their inbox.

How did a big Internet company like LinkedIn let something like this happen? It seems that email bugs like this one have been plaguing the Internet for years. I get them from EBay all the time. Lately I've been getting them from foreign countries telling me I've won their lottery. This isn't true either. In that case it's just a way to try to get my personal information from me.
Bugs like the one at LinkedIn on the other hand are more than a minor problem for many people. It makes them look like their spamming other people just to get them to look at their Web site. This makes them look like they're untrustworthy. Hopefully LinkedIn can get to the bottom of this soon and get it fixed.
