When involved in relationships over the Internet be conscious of some important safety rules.

Wiredsafety.org suggests recommendations in post entitled "Cyber dating: How to Have Fun But Stay Safe" to avoid the obvious dangers of starting a relationship with a complete stranger online.

Some important points:

  • Don't be too gullible. In many cases you have never met these people before face-to-face so don't take anything for granted whether about their age, appearance or who or what they claim to be.
  • NEVER give out personal information. This should be a no-brainer especially exercising caution before sharing information with someone you don't know and have never met, but it is surprising the lure of intimacy seemingly wielded by some social networks and chats.
  • Make your first meeting safe. Begin on the phone graduating up to a get-together with friends in a very public place.
  • Go slow. When it comes to translating from online friend into the face-to-face world, caution is the best approach.

Great tips…but I don;t know if I trust them coming from this guy. Looking at the picture, it looks like the only date he’s has were the ones his doctor prescribed when he ate too much and was constipated.

Can someone explain this sentence to me?

“Begin on the phone graduating up to a get-together with friends in a very public place.”

Am I supposed to talking on the phone while I’m graduating? Am I graduating from high school or college? It’s not much of a tip if you can only use it once or twice in your lifetime.
