I like TV. But the role of TV in my life has changed in the past few years, and I don't think I'm all that unusual.

I remember when I was a kid. You watched your favorite show every Tuesday night at nine o'clock and if the power went out (or if you had to leave the living room and go the bathroom for a minute) it seemed like part of your life was gone forever. You'd missed it. If you were lucky, you could see it as a rerun, next year.

Now the show that was on at 10 pm is going to get replayed at 1 am on the same channel. And if you miss it in that time slot you can always go watch it on the network's website.

Ah, the website….

Whether it's cable or direct tv packages, broadband Internet access is quickly becoming the most important thing you get from your TV provider. You might have a package that gets you all the games your favorite football team plays. But the connectivity you get from your TV provider is become an essential service.
