Don't Fake It, Keep It Real

8. You don't need to be a programmer or design your MySpace profile to have a really cool profile page. There are so many MySpace templates out there that you can use for free. They're well built and don't take a long time to load.
7. Eight is a small number, granted. Being in the nine and up crowd isn't all that bad. You have to think of it this way, if you have 100 friends, someone has to be in the 9 and up crowd, besides, it's a bigger crowd anyway, isn't it?
6. I agree with him on this one. Please don't make your music play as soon as I open the page. This is definitely one of my pet peeves.
5. He's right in that you shouldn't outright lie on your profile. After all, how are people supposed to get to know you if you don't tell them who you are? On the other hand, if you want to list a religious preference and an astrological sign, I don't see any reason why you can't do both. If you want to list your sexual preference, more power to you. No harm, no foul. It is a free Internet.
4. Wow! He's brutal on this one. Let me tell you something. During the day, and sometimes night, I live online. But, I do have a life outside of the Internet, believe it or not. I have 3 kids, 2 of which have special needs. The other is an avid cyclist and bike racer. We go on trips to bike races and spend a lot of time at the local velodrome and playgrounds. If I tanned, I'd have a picture of me up there with a tan too.
3. People, please don't just post your worst pictures on your profile. There are photo sharing sites where you can post your memorable events, then link to them from your profile or a blog post about the event. When others come to your profile they want to see pictures of the real you. Post them!
2. Alright, that extended network thing bugs me too. Luckily, I've found a code to get rid of it.
1. Even though he's quite trenchant on this point, he does make a good point. A fake persona will not find you real friends. Only being honest with yourself and others can you find true friendship. On the other hand, living in the past is not a good thing. It's time to act your age (not your shoe size) and become your own person.
