TechCrunch ran a piece earlier this month on the surge in LinkedIn traffic.
In the last nine months, LinkedIn has gone from having about five million users to more like eight million users. They saw a 22% increase in traffic between December 2008 and January 2009. And during that same time period the time visitors spent at the site doubled. Users are also writing more recommendations (a feature the site facilitates) and the people at LinkedIn recently ungraded their search abilities - so you can more easily find people you know at the site.
It will be interesting to see if the pattern continues throughout the recession.

I've found LinkedIn more and more useful over the past few months. I've learned a lot from the interactions in the Q&A and profession based groups. In the world of social networks, it's the most beneficial for personal development and making meaningful career connections.

With the current economic down turn more and more people are turning to coupons and any means necessary to cut their costs. So you need a deal site. There are many dealhunting site on the internet. Most of them can help you find a great deals and coupons. I highly recommond this site - http://www.just4deal.com.
It is a pretty good site for accessing various online sales, coupons, and clearance events. I don't really think it's an end all and be all website for shopping. I think it should be a supplement to your online purchases. So if you know you need to buy a digital camera or a garden hose then on top of shopping around in the "real world", you check the big sites like Ebay.com, and Amazon.com and then this site… the overview may be a little thin but it's a lot easier to get at a large amount of sales and compare them, in this way than in any other way. I like the site layout as well; it's easy to figure out where you need to go, and then to compare percentages off on the specific product you want.

SOCIAL NETWORKING
Thanks your post about linkedin is certainly insightful. I recently wrote a nice piece on engineer's lack of embrace for social media ( http://www.engineeringdaily.net/2009/04/social-networking-for-engineer
s
). I am trying to raise awareness in the engineering community. My own opinion contrary to that of most of my peers is, social networking is not just necessary but a necessary progression from traditional modes of communication. I much the same way telephones were the better option compared to letters, then in much the same way sending emails or collaborating electronically is a better option than meeting someone in person. This we have to accept as the wave of the future and fully embrace it. Have a nice day
