Facebook Passes Google, MySpace Dying Slowly

A couple of years ago you could picture the struggle for market dominance in the Social Networking world between Facebook and MySpace as a clash between two bull elephants – heads pressed against each other, pushing. There were other, similar services (Friendster, Bebo, and the like), but they were smaller animals by comparison and mostly stood around and watched the fight.

The fight is over. Facebook was the most visited Internet site in the US for the second week of March (beating out Google for that spot). Facebook now has about 350 million users worldwide, compared to 130 million for MySpace, according to Wikipedia.

GigaOm recently described what's happening to MySpace as "slow death." MySpace is losing its executive staff and technical talent, according to GigaOm. A recent TechCrunch article looks at the emotional tone at MySpace and says that there's "lots of yelling" going on.
