Facebook’s Code Exposed

Facebook's Code Exposed

"Some of Facebook's source code was exposed to a small number of users due to a bug on a single server that was misconfigured and then fixed immediately. It was not a security breach and did not compromise user data in any way." ~quote from Facebook posted by Harrison Hoffman of CNet Blogs (Aug 12)

It seams that some of Facebook's code was laid bare for a short time last week. The source code is now being posted online on such sites as Facebook
Secrets
. According to Facebook, "The reprinting of this code violates several laws and we ask that people not distribute it further."

This leaves a big problem for security. With the code posted on open sites like this, anyone can get in and try to find holes in Facebook's security. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Come on guys, don't hack Facebook. I know the temptation is almost irresistible with the source code laying out there for all to see. You're only hurting the people who use it. Let's work to keep our social networking sites secure and safe. Maybe you can put your hacking skills to good use and help Facebook solve this problem instead.
