How To Stay Anonymous
Anonymity is an important feature of a personal Web site or profile when the author of the site (ie. you) wants to write about things that would just not fit into his real life world. If your mom, your employer, your spouse or your kids came across your Web site or profile page how would it make you feel? Do you want them to see and read the kinds of things you post there? If you want to post outrageous things or things you just don't want to be connected to you then you need to create a site that will be anonymous.

First, choose a name, other than your own. Make it something that no one would never make someone think of you. For instance, my name is linda so if I wanted to create an anonymous user name I could choose something like SandyQ and no one would ever know it was me.

Second, sign up for an online email address and again choose an email address that has nothing to do with you. Maybe keep it the same as the anonymous username you chose above.

Third, sign up for your Web site or profile using your false name and anonymous email address. Don't enter your address, phone number, city, workplace, school or anything else that could be used to identify you.

When Writing

Never ever use your real name in your blog, on your Web pages or on your profile page if you are serious about staying anonymous. Also, if you are going to talk about your family and friends give them all fake names and don't get too personal. Keep descriptions of where you went and what you did as generic as possible.

One more thing. No photos. Photos of you will certainly take away from your anonymity but what about photos of places near you. I see photos on profiles all the time without people, but I still know where they were taken. This means to me that I might know this person. A little more research may tell me who he or she is, if I really wanted to know.

One false move and someone you know who has come across your site may link that site to you. I did this once. I came across a site and was reading it when I suddenly realized I knew who this person was. Be careful.

Now you can talk freely about your political views, religious views, favorite music, sexual fantasies or whatever else you want to talk about anonymously. Finally, freedom!
