If Facebook Wants to Beat MySpace..

I see one major deficit that Facebook needs to overcome if they want to beat out MySpace by next year. They need to find a better way to let people modify their profiles.

People love to play with and change the way their profile pages look. Facebook is not very good at this right now. You can change the layout of your Facebook profile a little, but that's pretty much the extent of it.

They need to come up with an editor for their site so Facebook users can change colors, change backgrounds and whatever else they want to change on their profiles. Profiles are the heart of social networking. People want their profiles to show off who they are. They can't do this currently with Facebook.

    No, it’s like saying that people don’t want all their profile pages to look the same. They want individuality. They want to show off who they are. They can’t do that with Facebook.

    That’s what seperates Facebook vs MySpace. If Facebook allowed those features there wouldn’t be a difference in the two sites. Facebook’s cleanliness is it’s appeal not drawback.

    I just think a little color, a way to change the order of your profile, and a few fun features would be a great thing for them. This is just the kind of thing Facebook needs. Fluff Friends, how cute! They’re also doing things like gift giving and the fun wall. I think these are the kinds of things that will take Facebook far.

    Here…I’m going to say it. I hate MySpace. I hate it when people “trick” their page out so much it takes my super high speed Internet forever to get on the page. I also like the type of people on Facebook so much better. Have you noticed they’re more educated and are a lot less likely to send you crappy spam promotions like you get on MySpace?
