ClearAdmit is a MBA Applicant wiki
that's recently launched. I was able to get some answers as to their plans from Alex Brown of ClearAdmit.
Why you created it?
The MBA applicant community is typically pretty open to sharing ideas and experiences, this occurs on various applicant blogs (I am subscribed to about 100) and discussion boards, principally BusinessWeeks discussion board. Clearadmit itself hosts a blog that has become quite popular for this community, we get approximately 1,000 unique visitors a day (yesterday was a record, 1,300). That all being said the idea behind the wiki was to provide a central resource that applicants could share their information and insights. For example, for each school we list there is an interview section. The applicant can share his / her interview experience. This becomes useful to those prepping for an interview at that particular school. Once completed we hope those who benefited return and share their experiences etc.
What need has it solved?
Basically to serve as a central repository of content, insights learned by the applicant community as they negotiate the admissions process.
Who's a typical user?
MBA applicants who are applying to the top-tier business schools. There are probably about 10,000 worldwide.
Do you consider it a success? Would you recommend it to other companies?
It is day 3 so we have a long way to go to determine if it will 'stick'. We understand this wiki application is pretty unique at this stage, most wikis seem to be applied to internal organization communication, or for creating a great encycleopedia! Thus we will monitor the project very closely, make adjustments as we learn and hope the product does become very useful for the community. We did extensive beta testing with applicants and learned a lot through that process.
What do you hope to see it accomplish that it hasn't already?
(when I asked this I didn't know it was 3 days old LOL)
As it is so new, it is difficult to say. The first goal is for this to be a useful resource that applicants willingly contribute and learn from. It is another effort to provide transparency to the admissions process, so to the extent it can do that, that would be wonderful. Lets see.
