Is MySpace Past It’s Prime?

Two GigaOm articles late last month about MySpace caught my eye and kind of hung around in my mind. Author Om Malik seems to think that MySpace is (or will soon be) a thing of the past…
The legendary New York Yankees catcher Yogi Berra is rumored to have said about a restaurant: "Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded." That is precisely how I feel about MySpace, which apparently has a lot of visitors, especially in the U.S., where it is marginally ahead of Facebook, but no one I know actually uses it.
I use MySpace. But I personally like Facebook better. I use MySpace because I'm part of a community at work where it is the social network of choice. My MySpace page keeps me in touch with my day job crowd.
Om sees changes coming that he thinks MySpace will have a hard time weathering. But he thinks they'll try.
Like an '80s rock band, MySpace's time has come and gone, says Om. We'll see if he's right…

I rarely go back to myspace.com because it became an popularity contest, a joint for many bad musicians, and the amount of adds makes me feel like at Costco on a Sunday.
Om might just be right. I know for myself I hate when social networks become too “loud”, with too many ads and you feel lost in the crowd so to speak. Hopefully they will revamp it and stay fresh. We shall see…
As long as there is teenagers there will be a myspace It’s like a first car, a first date, and high school eventually you move on to better things but you have to start someplace…

I think it is sad that MySpace has had such a beating. I used to use MySpace solely and never even touched Facebook. I actually just did a Blog post on this last week, how Network Marketers have killed these social sites. It will just be a matter of time before Facebook has to make major changes to stop the spammers…
Thanks for the post!

Your title is spelled incorrectly! It should be “Its” not “It’s” which implies “It is”! Correct spelling = credibility.
