Myspace as MVNO

What's a MVNO, you ask? MVNO is an acronym for Mobile Virtual Network Operator. For some silly reason, it hasn't entered into every day vernacular. But, everyone in the mobile world seems to think it has. Or maybe they just don't write for others to understand.

Anyways, Myspace has entered the fray. Derrick Oien, co-founder of IntercastingCorp (creators of Rabble), a leading supplier of services to MVNOs, has some good pointers and insight:

Of course the big news yesterday was that MySpace is launching with Helio when they debut sometime later this year. The announcement following repeated announcements of the impending launch of MySpace wasn't necessarily a surprise. To me it is certainly reinforced by what I wrote here in terms of what the impact will be. Debi did a pretty comprehensive write up here that fleshes things out a bit. Most of all though I thought what Russ wrote here, although saying he doesn't see it, shows that he understands it.

Not surprising really, what is surprising is the method that they’ve gone about it. It very much looks like something that Helio has put the leg work into, I would have thought MySpace would have gone the other way and opened up their site to as many phones as possible!
