Myspace is King of Product Placement
Filed in archive Sites by pete on January 11, 2006

I think most adults possess a healthy distrust of marketers invading their social space. For example, most of us don't like being interrupted with an ad shoved in our face when we are talking to some friends in a restaurant. From my observations, this isn't a sensibility that the users of myspace seem to possess, when being social online. myspace
has "featured profile ads" all over its site. Presumably, this placement is paid for. Further, it seems advertisers are not just sold banner ads and product placement. Many advertisers create (or it is created for them) a myspace profile for their brand (not work safe), product, event, tv show or ad campaign. Quick. Go be friends with Xbox. As odd as that sounds, at the time of this writing, over 60,000 myspace members have done it. Product placement is back - in a big way - online.
