MySpace Launches Instant Messenger Client

I've given up trying to be the first to report stuff. I couldn't do it if I wanted to. But, waiting to read the first 50 bloggers reactions to news is actually more fun. From what I can tell, Pete Cashmore and FIMers: Andrew Teman and Kareem Mayan broke the stories. Of course, news spread via Rubel, Staci.
So, the big news this week is that Myspace launched an IM client. Most every blogger is pretty disappointed with the launch. Ben Metcalfe has the most succinct review of the suck:
Back to MySpace IM, I'm disapointed that the client doesn't come pre-populated with your MySpace buddies, but perhaps that's something they can do in the next version?
Clearly, these guys have got to get VoIP in there and also video calling. Finally, if they can get interoprability with other IM networks (possibly via black-ops if not by agreement) then that would create complete walk-over in the teen IM market.
Of course, most bloggers that cover the space think that myspace sucks anyways. So, I imagine that the 70+ M myspace members won't bother to notice the suckiness. And when it is easy for a memberr to suck their friend list into their buddy list, Myspace will be sitting on the most active instant Messenger network overnight.

I genuinely apprecaite the compliment RE my quote, but just wanted to polietly suggest that some “link lurve” wouldn’t have gone a-miss too!!
I like MySpace a lot, but I really don’t like the IM client. Instead I use the eBuddy client at http://www.ebuddy.com. It’s very easy to use, everywhere available and you can even use different chats (like MSN, AOL, Yahoo etc). Highly recommended!
