What this means is that MySpace and Facebook, although rivals in the social networking world, are also very different. They cater to different kinds of people. MySpace is all about bling and has the party atmosphere while Facebook is about meeting people who you already know and keeping in touch with them.
The article asks the question, who will come out on top, MySpace or Facebook. I say neither. People will eventually get bored with both if they don't step up their game. Here's my prediction: Someone is going to come along in the next year and blow them both away.
I'm quite board with Facebook and have done all I can do there. MySpace has a little more, but still not enough to keep my attention. I want something more.
I guess I have a very short attention span. What were we talking about? Oh, I remember.
Which one do you think will come out on top? Which do you like better? Why?

I have been signing up for several social networking sites and these two are the most popuplar. The one thing I don't like about both these sites is that they are not good for you in the long run. The are personal profiles which to the professional world, it's worthless and can hurt you. One site I came across was http://www.postess.com.
They offer a professional profile that will carry you a long ways. They offer job tools, job listings, profile search, job search, and so much more. With this profile, you seem to stand out as more professional then myspace and facebook profiles. IMO, Postess.com will grow beyond facebook and myspace.

I've come accross iPling (www.iPling.com)- What a refreshing concept. They bill themselves as a "social expansion engine" whereby the user creates profiles and iPling matches those profiles with others of similar interests. But that's not all- the crux of their service is built around Location Based Services for the cell phone- initially the iPhone. You can get together with someone with like interests anytime and, if you want anywhere.
VERY coool.

You know, I'm just going to have to say that neither will come out on top. While I have accounts at both, I'm bored. And they're really not all that great for real networking -- that is unless you'd like to be spammed about how to get paid to take surveys. That's not really my style. I will however be checking out the sites mentioned in the previous comments. Thanks for your post!

I think while they are going to be so busy fighting each other
one of the smaller sites like
http://www.bebo.com
http://www.zooped.com
http://www.tribe.net
Will emerge to shock us all and emerge in to a social network giant

I totally agree that it'll end up being one of the smaller sites that emerges as victor in this battle.
