MyYearbook: Latest Victim of Social Networking Craze

According to Alexa's charts, myyearbook became one of the fastest growing websites on the internet ever. With traffic that went from next to nothing to 400 visitors out of every million on the internet (in 15 days), they must be doing something unique, compelling and different.

Since the home page now simply shows the alexa graph and a note explaining that they are adding new servers this coming week, here's all I know about it:

Geared for high-schoolers, myYearbook.com has mushroomed into a 300,000 members site. The Cooks, ages 17 and 16, are courting investors. Pages are simpler than MySpace to customize. Kids can Flirt, Bully or Secretly Admire each other with a mouse-click, or send Gold Stars or High-Fives. Members get an online "Yearbook," complete with a "Will" and a "Locker" for sharing music, photos and videos. They envision ads targeted more precisely than Google or Amazon, based on members' entries. MyYearbook.com is "not as safe and secure as it should be," says Parry Aftab of advocacy group Wired Safety, which next month plans to introduce a teen networking site called Yfly.com.

It’s a shame that they appear to have gone down – I’m getting 502 Proxy Errors now.

They certainly seem to have put together a well-themed site. I’m looking forward to taking a gander when it’s back up!
