Netscape Does DIGG for the Masses! So will DIGG!

Unless you follow Jason Calacanis closely, you probably had no idea that AOL was launching a new version of Netscape that was to be a social bookmarking/social voting website. Jason, of course, denies that it is a DIGG clone. But, that's like saying Dolly wasn't a perfect clone because her hair was longer. In other words, it is a DIGG clone.
However, it's been designed for the masses with lots of categories – and it has an editorial policy: don't interfere editorially. They just have anchors that flesh out the stories that lots of people want to have fleshed out. I give the new Netscape a big thumbs up. It's smart.
Of course, Digg, whose traffic now rivals the NYTCO will have an answer very shortly. Let the races begin.
