Soc Network Sites
by Linda Roeder on February 9, 2007

A parent can create sites for their kids and help keep their kids safe while participating in the social networking scene. A teacher can create a site and guide her students in the world of the Internet.
There are groups the kids can join in, just like on most social networking sites. They can create their own groups and only talk to their own friends from school or join in other groups that may have something to do with a famous person or something else they are interested in.
Kids can create photo albums and share pictures with their friends. They even get a blog were they can write stories, tell about their day or just about anything they want. They also get an inbox so they can send each other messages.
Parents should sign up too so you can keep track of what your kids are doing online. You have the ability to monitor and even approve the blog posts, messages and photos your child posts. Sign up for alerts to be notified when your child does certain things on their site.
No doubt kids need to be protected online. There are a lot of bad people out there in the world. Parents need to be involved in what their kids do and who their kids talk too. On the other hand, kids need a certain amount of privacy too.
You don't put a recorder on your kids before they go to school and monitor every conversation they have all day and you should respect their privacy online to a certain point too. Don't bother them about every little thing they write or post. Just watch for the big things.
