Online Dating vs Social Networking

Online Dating vs Social Networking

The online dating sites are now finding themselves in competition with the influx of social networking sites. Social networking sites are on the rise. With so many social networking sites, and MySpace being so popular, online dating sites are worrying that their clients may go somewhere else.

Online dating services have something special though. Try finding a date on MySpace. I think you would have a hard time finding the right person for you. There are so many people and so many of them are there just to find friends, not dates, that you would have to read through all the profiles to find the other people who are looking for dates too. With an online dating service you wouldn't have to do that, all the people are there to look for dates.

Online dating services have started allowing clients on their site to link to their myspace profiles, or whatever social networking site they have profiles on. This is their way of keeping their clients on their service while still letting them see what other things their potential dates may have to offer and letting them learn more about each other at the same time.

I think social networking is much better at creating a fun and relaxing atmosphere than online dating sites. At least that’s been my experience. I’d subscribed to online dating site and had lukewarm success. Since being in Facebook I’ve been unindated. I’ve made plenty a great friends from all over and have created some great dates as well. I’m currently seeing someone exclusively due to the one the “Flirt” Facebook” apps. There’s just something about these applications that makes participating fun and spontaneous without any “rejection” anxiety that can show up on a dating site. Yea, I’d say online dating sites have their work cut out. With Facebook they’re dealing with a serious non-competitor competitor.

Social networking is great ! The next step of meeting and developing a relationship is a bit more tentative. You must have something that makes that person want to get to know you and spend time with you. The social network somewhat gets you into the door. What do you have to offer that will not get the door slammed in your face ?
