PeopleAggregator: Interoperable Social Networking Websites
Interoperable social networking websites. That's been Marc Canter's vision for awhile now. PeopleAggregator is now live. And it is a step in the right direction. We'll see if it takes off. Frankly, although I love the idea and hope it succeeds, I don't see the website taking off anytime soon. Unfortunately, ownership of data isn't a marketing strategy that has really succeeded online on its own. It isn't as compelling as sharing video or listening to music. But, we shall see. People Aggregator is going to have to compete with the big boys to get the big boys to open up their data. The big boys have little incentive to make user's content movable to another site unless market pressures or consumers demand it. I wrote it up here before. TechCrunch has a good review.
