Quiting Facebook

VentureBeat had an article recently on quitting Facebook. Not that that's unusual. The idea of abandoning Facebook has become something of a dream in some corners of the business world – like the image of throwing your cellphone away in so many 90's movies.

Mashable has a look (map included) at where America's 116 million Facebook users live. That's about 38% of the US population on Facebook – probably over half the adults in the country.

Lots of the people who have come to hate Facebook maintain their account there out of a sense of obligation. They feel like their work requires it of them. But once they have an account they get "friend" requests from people they don't really want to be particularly friendly with – from the guy who works in the corner cubical to old high school girl friends they'd rather forget..
