Roll Of the Dice
Have you ever thought of starting your own social networking site or maybe even adding social networking features to your existing Web site. If you want to make money, think again.

New social networking sites start every day. Most don't make it. Trying to start one of your own and make it work is like rolling dice and trying to get snake eyes.

At the article "Is Social Networking Right for Your Site?" five reasons are given why it is near impossible to create a working social networking site. They are money, spam, competition, keeping people interested and SEO.

I would like to add one more. Getting people on the service in the first place. After all, people are there to network and meet people. If you sign up for a new social networking site chances are there are very few people there to actually meet. It's boring. It could take months before there are enough people on the service to make it worthwhile. In the meantime the bills still have to be paid.

I totally agree with this assessment if the numbers are right. I don't know how the social networking sites keep afloat with all they have to contend with. It seems like a near impossibility. No wonder so many crash so fast.
