Social Networking Communities

There is a trend of communities starting with the social networking sites. Some social networking sites are opening with a specific purpose in mind or for a certain kind of person.

Take Wesabe for instance. Wesabe is a site where people can get together and network about how to save money or spend less or maybe even find some great deals at their favorite stores. Gather is another social networking site with a special purpose. Gather is a place for writers to get together and write or network with other writers.

43 Things is a social networking site that helps you with your goals and Flixter lets you share movie ratings. Then there is SponsorHouse where athletes can post profile pages that might help them get noticed by sponsors or other people in their sport.

With this trend pretty soon there will be a different type of social networking site for just about anything you could want. When that happens you have to consider what will happen to sites like MySpace. They don't have anything "special" to offer. They do have their groups where people with similar interests can network, but will that really be enough when you can join a whole network with people with similar interests?

Do you belong to a social networking site with a specific purpose?
