Ning just announced they have over 185,000 networks on their platform alone. So a list of 700 seems a bit inadequate, dontcha think?

I'm not sure I understand your argument. If I understand correctly Ning only lists er... Ning social networks, or is YouTube.com listed on Ning and I'm just not aware of it? :) Think of it like this, if Ning is myspace, then socialnetworklist is google.

Considering the sheer number of interests, subjects and related social networks out there, 700 is a paltry amount. Ning doesn't list all of it's 185,000 social networks. It shows about 800 odd pages each listing 20 networks per page and yes they are all ning networks, but so what? Ning is a platform that enables anyone to easily create a social network. Just because it's created on Ning doesn't make it any less of a social network. A lot of them are useful and popular. http://findasocialnetwork.com
currently listing about 5000 networks, including ning ones. It seems as if they are user submitted. If any site can claim to be the "google" in this context, it's them as they use a search engine format and often return many results per keyword search.
