Socializr: What Friendster Could Have Been
Filed in archive Event Software by pete on September 18, 2006

discovered a way into the site. The site itself looks a lot like HeyLetsgo, who has a nice head start in the Boston area (Previously). Interestingly enough, I know from a handful of sources, that Friendster's strategy, before the VCs stepped in, was to be an event startup. Making $ from event promotion. Scaling event promotion is tough and risky, though. So, Socializr looks like it plans to leverage events as content, to drive traffic to their site. My guess is that the business model is the same as evite's. Help people find events, organize their friends and make $ from advertising. There's a link at the bottom for "promoters" though. That intrigues me. I wonder what kind of relationship Socializr will have w/ promoters? If myspace is any indication of the right way to do it, treating promoters like gold gets site founders in with the cool crowd. Which makes their site the cool place to hang out. Maybe Jonathan is a little jealous of all the Asian attention that Tom gets?
