THE INQUISITR had a cute post on Sunday about the growth of social media. The image it created in my mind was one in which social media is something like a growing carbuncle that will one day simply pop. Maybe soon...
Author Steven Hodson makes some good points about the nature of social media. It's a logical outgrowth of Web 2.0. At its core the goal seems to be to have as many "friends" as possible. The more of these friends you have, the less you probably have in common with them (generally speaking). And eventually the exercise can become pointless.
Hodson's conclusion? It's just another boom to bust cycle that will eventually crash - after making some people a lot of money.
The post sounds as much like a rant as anything else. But an enjoyable, even thought provoking rant. You can read it yourself here...

Beyond having too many friends..with social networking becoming increasingly advanced, it will continue to filter into our everyday practices and lifestyle. If anyone wants to try and get ahead with their business, they really should consider the value found in social marketing.
